Bennan is our family favourite, named after a tree fringed hill on the Dunure Estate.

Inspired by the mountain cabins of the Rockies, Bennan is a frontier-style sanctuary finished with a flurry of contemporary luxury. It boasts unforgettable views of the Isle of Arran, Ailsa Craig, and Northern Ireland. Look out across the Mull of Kintyre from the outdoor bath under the veranda – whether the sea is glowing in the setting sun or churning inky blue under moody skies you can soak the day away. Recharge by relaxing round Bennan’s glowing outdoor fireplace or stargazing from the Adirondack chairs (whisky in hand optional).
Monkey Shoulder is made nearby, but for a dram with drama get up early and take a boat trip to an Isle of Arran distillery. Cook up local delicacies you’ve collected on your travels in the fully-equipped kitchen, or just indulge in the warmth of the indoor wood burner – but don’t forget to take in the sea views from inside too. Stroll into the woods and pick up the coastal path leading down to unspoiled coves, visit ancient sites such as Culzean Castle, or embark on a kayak adventure to experience Dunure’s wildlife close up.
Bennan is situated between Brae and Baron, and is a short walk from the parking area.

- The king-size bed is accessed via a steep ladder to the mezzanine
- All wood for the outdoor fireplace and log burner is provided for your stay.
- Bring wellies and walking gear, and any outdoor activity equipment you’d like (including bikes, paddleboards etc.)
- No WiFi is avaliable at the cabins, and there is limited phone signal. 4G is available, but not 100% reliable.
- Please be aware, there are two other cabins on site about 70 metres from each other
- Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the Mount Freedom site.
- One king size bed for two, accessed via a steep ladder to mezzanine level.
- There is space for two dogs, at a charge of £20 each. Beds and water bowls can be provided
- A well-equipped kitchen with an oven, hob, fridge freezer, utensils, glasses, crockery and cutlery.
- Coffee, tea, sugar, salt, pepper, olive oil, pasta, rice and marshmallows are provided as part of your stay.
- Weber Kettle BBQs, charcoal and tools are avaliable for £10. We’ll set it up and clean it so you don’t have to.
- Mount Freedom tap water is safe to drink.
- An indoor bathroom with shower, sink, and flushing toilet.
- Bathroom toiletries provided.
- Dressing gowns provided.
- And don’t forget your outdoor bath!
- All bed linen and towels are provided.
- Plug and USB sockets.
- Electric lighting and heating.
- Wood burner.
- Classic games such as Scrabble, Uno and Connect.
- Bluetooth speaker and radio.
- Portable DVD player with a selection of DVDs.
- Tennis court with rackets and balls available to borrow if you don’t have your own. Trainers must be worn at all times.
Congratulations Angus and Tracy for creating such a world class place to stay. The Mount Freedom Cabins are beautifully designed, in a stunning setting with a great story. I felt relaxed from the moment I arrived - the place is playful, clever, cosy and oozes character. Love the woodburning stove, flickering candles, music, places to sit and read and write - all with a wonderful view - a fab kitchen and bathroom, king size bed and the highlight of an outdoor bath with oceans of hot water and a covered deck looking out to the islands off the West Coast of Scotland.
The unique stories about Dunure and the inspiration of the pioneer cabins in America, with everything made from wood and the attention to detail in the finish and layout all made for a truly refreshing and active rest. Adore the walks from the door, a friendly pub and harbourside cafe in Dunure or up to Mount Freedom and beyond to really get a sense of the wild landscape. I've found the place I can go to in my mind and feel at peace. I look forward very much to returning to this rather magical place. In fact, I'm prescribing it.
