On the covered porch outside this gorgeous log cabin on a hillside, there’s a bath where you can soak and watch the sea, or listen to the drumming of rain on the roof. There’s a king-size bed on a mezzanine (sea views from there as well) a big leather sofa by a wood burner, en suite bathroom, fully-equipped kitchen and a portable dvd player in the trunk. Out on the porch you’ll also find two Adirondack chairs, which you can pull round to the fireplace that’s set in the outside of the chimney. It makes a great end to your day, especially with a glass of whisky in your hand. Monkey Shoulder is made nearby, but for a dram with drama, get up early and take a boat trip to Arran, visit the distillery there and bring back a souvenir for bath time.

For simpler days out, there are beaches nearby, kayak adventures and sights like Culzean Castle to check out, as well as the coastal path that you can pick up in the woods for some great hiking. As you’re coming and going, you might meet guests of Brae and Baron, the two other cabins created by owners Tracy and Angus. They share the parking area but are well screened from Bennan by the thick woods. The paths from the parking even run behind the cabins, so you’re unlikely to see another soul unless you head down to the harbourside pub. That leaves you free to laze, bathe and repeat in perfect peace.
